Helen Anthony

A 1976 graduate of Westminster Choir College in Princeton New Jersey. She holds a Bachelor of Music in Church Music degree, with the organ as her principal instrument. Helen completed graduate coarse work at West Chester University in West Chester Pa  and attended a Church Music Seminar at the Royal School of Church Music in Croydon, England in 1996.

Helen served Zion Lutheran Church in Hummelstown 1976-1983, Lakeside Lutheran Church  in Harrisburg 1983-1985. In February 1986 Helen was hired at Derry Presbyterian Church, Hershey as organist. Then in 1991 became Director of Music/Organist and retired in 2015. At Derry, Helen built and directed/supervised a 16 choir music program consisting of vocal choirs ranging from adult to young children, handbell and handchime choirs for all ages, hand sign choirs for young children and adults, and  brass and string ensembles. The volunteer music staff consisted of 5 choir directors, 2 organ accompanists and a piano accompanist. Helen also served on the Arts Alive Committee which brought musical artists to Derry Presbyterian for recitals as a community outreach. Upon retirement, she subbed at a variety of churches in the Hershey, Hummelstown, Harrisburg, York and Lancaster communities.

In January 2023, Helen became Director of Music/Organist of Messiah Lutheran Church, Harrisburg where she directs the Messiah Choir, plays for all worship services, is a member of the Worship and Music Committee, and will participate in a yearly concert in the newly formed Music at Messiah program.

Helen has served on the local chapter of the American Guild of Organists, chairing the Education Committee.

Helen has taught private piano and organ lessons  since 1976.

Helen and her husband Donald have 2 adult children, Melissa and Scott and 3 grandchildren, Jade, Joshua and Mena.
